Another mob action in Nigeria: Motorcyclists kill sound engineer, Sunday Imoh over ₦100

Nigerians have been thrown into another round of mourning, barely days after news of a female student being burnt in Sokoto broke, there has been another mob attack in Nigeria.

This time, it is in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital. More disturbing is the exact location of the unfortunate incident, a supposed high-brow area, Lekki Phase 1.

Sunday David Imoh, a sound engineer with a music band, LEGACY360 was allegedly beaten and set ablaze by suspected motorcyclists in the Admiralty area of Lekki, Lagos State.

According to a statement by LEGACY360, the mob action that killed Imoh and left two other band members injured and hospitalized happened on “…fateful Thursday, May 12, 2022, just like every other Thursday for the Band (LEGACY360 BAND) to perform at various occasion venues.”

“The Sound engineer (Sunday David Imoh) and one of the keyboard players who mounted the same bike had an argument over (Money change) with the Okada rider (AN ABOKI) at its destination on Admiralty road – which resulted in what became a Cold-Blooded Night. The other Okada riders (that were of the same tribe) came out and avenge their brothers which turns out to be an attack on the 2 band members of Legacy360 band group.

“This band members were humiliated, suffered some beaten to a pulp and the sound engineer SUNDAY DAVID IMOH lost his life right there and was BURNT right there on the road.” The statement reads.

Meanwhile, reactions have been trailing the death of Imoh and his injured band members.

Some blamed the state government for banning ride-hailing firms that once revolutionized transportation via motorcycle in the megacity, while it failed to rid the state of the unregulated “okada riders”

Sanwo-Olu woke up one morning and told us that he has BANNED Okada in Lagos.

Registered and tax paying bike-hailing companies were run out of town while unregistered dare devil bike men were unleashed on Lagosians.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said four suspects had been arrested, adding that a manhunt had been launched for other fleeing accomplices.

He said, “The incident was over N100. So, it degenerated into a fight and the motorcyclists ganged up against the person that was killed and burnt. On the day the incident happened, we arrested four persons that were positively identified by people living in the area.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. A manhunt has been launched for other fleeing accomplices.”

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the state government would not condone jungle justice.
